Deliberate LATE fees and MISC Fees being charged on my account

I have been an Empty Attic customer for several years and for the past year I have been charge unnecessary LATE fees due to errors on Empty Attic's part. This company will repeatedly tell me that the credit card on file has been DENIED, when is odd when I come in within hours of the same day it was denied, that it works just FINE!! This is something that has been going on for a year. The Empty Attic has admitted to credit card issues, causing my account to be past due, that accumulated late charges, and as a result, the LATE fees were removed! But this was bases solely on the part of me, the customer, coming down in person to fit the problem! I believe this is something that they do to deliberately charge LATE fees to customers. And husband and I credit cards have been on file for AUTO payment, and it was DOUBLE check for accuracy several times, and the most recent time on January 21, 2023, so no future issues will happen, but for some reason, I was CHARGED AGAIN for this February, 2023, after going down there the month before, for LATE another LATE fee due to my credit card was DENIED! I offered to show them my statements of our bank accounts, at the time of ALLL of their charges, but they refused! So, to settle this issue AGAIN, and to pay my regular storage fee for the month, I went forward with submitting my payment over the phone, and my credit card was then recharged and it went through JUST fine, BUT The Empty Attic secretly added a LATE fee without advising me. They refuse to give give me credit for the LATE fees when it was clearly the part of The Empty Attic. This company has been reported to the Business Bureau, my lawyer has been contacted to investigate my charges, and a police report has been filed in any event my property gets damaged or stolen after this date (2/6/2023) of report. I refuse to have them conduct another customer in this manner. I will continue to fight until they are fully investigated for their actions!

Hello, the only late fees which have been charged are ones incurred by the rules outlined in your contract. In fact, we have worked with you on many of these fees despite them being the result of multiple failed credit card payments on your side. We would absolutely never charge a fee that wasn't appropriate. In regard to the most recent credit card issue, we did double check the number and expiration with you a couple times and also sent you a screen shot of exactly what was entered. You agreed to the card information and you were then upset when the card was once again declined due to inaccurate information. We offered to assist you with this yet again, but a chargeback was requested despite our efforts to settle the situation amicably. You have repeatedly yelled at the staff both in person and on the phone rather than try to come to a mutual understanding. You have also received printouts of the many failed transactions. We apologize that you feel wronged, but we have absolutely tried to work with you over your tenancy here. Please reach out to our office if you would like to iron this latest situation out.

All of last year I came in once a week and inquired about a storage unit and was told by Priscilla the office girl that there was nothing available period then somebody told me to go online and reserve a unit that it was easier to do it that way period so I did and I was able to rent a unit and then I was told to come in and take a look at my unit period when I did go down to the empty outic and until the lady in the office which was Priscilla that I was here to see my unit that I was told that I could come in and check it out on the computer that I had rented a unit online she said oh no there's nothing available I said hmm obviously online I was able to do that. So about a half an hour later my friend went in and rented me a unit I do believe this would be called discrimination to be told for a whole year every week that there is nothing available then to go online and get one and then to go in and be told again that there was no units only to have somebody go in half an hour later and rent me a unit

I am very upset because I never received a letter saying that they had raised the price and they charged me 30 dollars and although I had checks in my favor they did not care they should check the staff not the machines because they always look for a way to charge for no reason The owner should pay more attention to his customers

Hello Liliana, We understand that you are upset by the situation, regarding the rent increase. We did send out via USPS a notice notifying customers of the rent increase in late June 2022. It is very unfortunate that you did not receive the notice. As a way to rectify the issue, your account will be given a one-time credit of $30.00. tHIS IS A FOLLOW UP ON A PREVIOUS BLOG. sHILITA IS TOTALLY INCORRECT ABOUT ME OWING RENTAL FEES. i HAVE PAID ON TIME EACH MONTH FOR 29021. NOW IN NOVEMBER 2021, I DROPPED OFF A CHECK AT THE STORAGE FACILITY AND SHILITA MUST HAVE TAKEN IT OUT OF THE BOX, BECAUSE IT NEVER CLEARED. THE EXACT SAME THING OCCURRED LAST YEAR,WHEN SHE PULLED THE SAME THING. NOW, I CALLED THE OFFICE AND SHILITA TOLD MR YTHE CHECK HAD CLEARED, BUT IT HAD NOT. THEY TOLD ME I WAS EVIRTED AND HAD TO GET MY STUFF OUT OF MY UNITS BY MARCH 03, 2022. THE LETTER FROM EMPTY ATTIC DATED JAN 30, 2022 ARRIVED TODAY ON FEB 03, 2022, STATING IF i HAD MY STUFF OUT BY FEB 03 (THE DATE THE LETTER ARRIVED IN THE PM) ALL FEES OWING WOULD BE WAIVED., I HAVE CREDITS OF OVER $200 OWED TO ME AND THEN IN ADDITION THE LETTER STATED THAT IF I DID NOT HAVE MY STUFF OUT BY THE 3RD IT WOULD BE SOLD, WHEN PRIOR SENTENCE SAID I HAVE 30 DAYS!! THESE PEOPLE ARE ALL MESSED UP. I HAVE RENTED UNITS AT THIUS FACILITY FPR OVER TEN YEARS TIME. QUESTION DID THEY STEAL MY GOOD STUFF I HAD IN STORAGE AND ARE PULLING THIS AS A MEANS TO COVER IT UP? I commissioned Shilita to sell high-end donated new clothing in December 2020. Shilita chose the storage unit and locked it up. I never had a key to unit N019-EVER. I did not need to rent a storage unit, I had plenty of room in K678 unit to put clothing for sale. Shilita chose the unit. I signed no contract I did not even pay attention to the Unit # Comes May, 2021, when II attempt to enter my storage units, I find that I am locked out~! No late fee notices No lien sale fee notices. All of my payments for 2021 for both of my two units, were split between three units and i was told =I owed over $900!! And could not enter until I paid up. Needless to say Shilita accepted over $1500 in clothing, hand bags, bathing suits and ethnic quality clothing/material without a word as to the charges she had put, with here own hand, to the back of my checks for payment to the facility. On the front of each check I wrote to Empty Attic were my two unit numbers, K666 and K678. On the back side of my checks hand written by someone, not myself, obviously a different handwriting and as I put two unit #'s on the front of each check, not acceptable to me. Fast forward June, I make a payment by check. Check NOT CASHED UNTIL 06/30/21!! AND ONLY AFTER I MADE A BIG BEEF ABOUT IT. FAST FORWARD 07/02/21, I personally appear to confront Shilita, whom is saying" I am nasty mouthed and she goes only with God" I offer her more jewelry, high end designer clothing, new no less, Shilita and I are in the office alone together, I proffer my debit card for July 02, 21 payment. Shilita uses an old card on file!! and charges me my rental fees for July. I tell her NO! CANCEL THAT BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE ANY MONEY IN THAT ACCOUNT. I HAND HER MY DEBIT CARD TO BE USED FOR RENTAL FEES FOR JULY AND SHE RUNS A CHARGE ON THAT ONE TOO!!~ SO IN JUNE 2021 I HAVF BEEN CHARGED OVER $600 FOR TWO STORAGE'S COST $101 EACH!! AND STILL HAVE NO ACCESS!!! OWNERS NAME IS FOUND BUT NO PHONE NUMBER. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO CONTACT THE OWNERS??> PLEASE!~! 310 890-93890

Unfortunately, anyone can type anything regardless of accuracy. We rent storage space. That’s all we do. We do not move or handle, in any way, a customer’s property. And we certainly don’t sell their property for them nor barter for free rent. The customer was shown a unit for storage. Then, without permission, moved into the unit without paying or signing a contract and placed her lock on the door. It is still there. She was asked multiple times to come in to sign a contract but never did. Shilita did not accept any property from the customer, ever. We always write a customer’s unit #s on the back of every check for identification when we endorse it. If this customer does not wish to pay rent on the unit she appropriated, no problem, we’ll consider it abandoned and dispose of it and charge rent only on the 2 legitimate units. As to the delayed deposit of the check, the accounts were all delinquent, we held it from deposit until we could verify the account status. Delinquent customers do not have access until all rents are current.

My Storage was Thieved and No One Even Cared

I've been at this storage facility for a number of months. The main benefit for me is the ability to linger/loiter/hangout/sleep whatever activity you want during their open hours. There is no restroom but there is access to an unlocked water spiket to fill up a bucket or two. In order to get all that, there is a trade off. You can hang out all you want but when they close and I'm not with me stuff it's free reign to whomever gets inside. Empty Attic Employees? onsite security helping themselves? I don't know, but I knew my things were touched and not by me and I'm 100 percent certain my unit was locked. I'm sure nothing will be done and I will get nothing back if all I got was a shrug of the shoulders from the office. They had to have peeled back the roof that's why I have a steady stream of water falling directl.y in front of my door. so much for video cameras. so much for safe and secure. so long to some personal items I will never see again due to no fault of my own.

Used this place back in 2014-2015 and looking to use it again. Enjoyed the convenience that i can drive my car right next to my unit. Unique access code, hours are good. If you can keep your boxes, storage bins secured...you'll be fine.

I pay $173 month for a storage unit here. There are spiders everywhere. All over the outside of the units and when I opened it, there were spiders running around on my stuff. I'm going to spray and bug bomb the unit before I try and move any of this stuff into my new house. I'm extremely disappointed and, frankly, grossed out. I'm torn between "I can't wait to get my stuff out of there" and "I need to set it all on fire". Spiders freak me out. And with this creepy sort of infestation, the price is much too high. I regret putting my stuff in here.

I'm a huge fan of the Empty Attic. It's convenient, clean, the customer service is awesome and it's easy to get in and out of. I highly recommend The Empty Attic to anyone who needs a little help with storage!
